Khan vs Peterson Fight Preview: Khan Should Fight His Game; Sans Roach Advise

World Super Lightweight champion Amir Khan of Britain will put his title on the line against a strong and aggressive fighter Lamont Peterson of USA on December 10, 2011 for the unified Super Lightweight World Championship at Washington DC.

This will be an exciting Khan vs Peterson live match after disposing Zab Judah in July via a KO. The Bolton fighter will surely mix it up with the local hero Peterson in what many believe as the greatest fight of his career. Could this be a Khan loss before moving up to 147 lbs?

Many believe that Freddie Roach, a five-time Trainer of the Year award winner, has been the major factor for the success of his stable most notably eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao. Khan's success is also attributed to Roach's teachings as other believe.

In my opinion, Roach is just blessed with skilled, powerful and intelligent fighters that went on to dominate the boxing community. Khan is so engrossed with Roach as he put complete trust and confidence for this upcoming fight with Peterson.  Khan should have a mind of his own. He must also make some wise moves above the ring sans his trainer's instructions. He is too much dependent on his trainer's boxing philosophy.

In an interview with Telegraph.co.uk, Khan said: "Freddie can read an opponent straight away; he can see the mistakes, strengths, weaknesses of the opponent. He thought, if we do take a fight with Peterson, he knew exactly what we'd do."

This is something I disagree with Khan's perception on Roach's ability to assess fighters and make game plans. If Roach knows well his fighter's opponent game plan, then how come Manny Pacquiao won a slim margin over Juan Manuel Marquez in their third fight last December 2. Can Roach blame Pacquiao for not taking chances to pummel Marquez hard?
Remember that Roach told media after the fight that Pacquiao could have burn himself too much with training. Pacquiao could have lost the match if he was not the defending champion. Do I have a point here?

Khan should be able to assess the fight against Peterson and try to combine his own skills with smart decisions to overwhelm the local hero. He cannot put all his money on Roach but needs to make intelligent decisions during the course of the fight in order to retain his title belts. Everyone is excited to watch Khan vs Peterson live stream on December 10 if the British fighter can defend his title against the hometown hero. I hope Amir "King" Khan can read my opinion before his title fight.
