Barcelona have signed Dutch international winger Ibrahim Afellay from PSV for €3 million on a four-and-a-half year contract.
The Spanish champions made the announced on Friday on their official website and further stated that a release clause of €100 million has been inserted in the 24-year-old's contract.
"Ibrahim Afellay signed the deal at 11 o’clock this morning," ran a statement on Barca's official website. "The 24-year old’s contract is for four and a half years and includes a €100 million buyout clause."
PSV and Barca had already agreed upon a €3 million transfer fee in November and it's been further added that "the Dutch club will receive a percentage of any sell on fee."
"The deal also includes an agreement for Barça to play PSV in their centenary match in 2013," the statement continued.
Speaking at the press conference afterward, Afellay enthused, "I’ll wear the Barça colours with pride and respect. Barça is more than a club, Happy Christmas and Visca Barça!”
He continued, “When I was a kid, I wanted to play for Barça – it was a dream. We all know that it is the best place to play football and when I heard about their interest I didn’t think twice, I just felt – sign now and close the deal quickly."
However, the Dutch international is aware that finding a regular place in the starting line-up will be tough but opined, “That’s normal at a club like this where there are so many quality players, but I’ll fight for my place. I don’t mind where I play –wherever the boss wants me, I’ll do my very best."
He further added, “(The team is) fast and has a really high level. Every new player who comes in has to find his position in the team and that’s what I will do."
Afellay has been given the number 20 shirt at his new club.
