David Beckham is ready to consider offers to extend his playing career from as far afield as Brazil and the Middle East when his MLS contract with LA Galaxy expires in December.
The former England captain, whose five-season stint in the United States is due to come an end after a friendly against Melbourne Victory in Australia on Dec 6, could yet extend his stay in Los Angeles for a further year with the offer of a contract extension already on the table.
While Beckham is open-minded about his next move, it is understood that the former Manchester United midfielder is determined to continue playing and that there is no prospect of him accepting the offer of a player-coach role at Leicester City under Sven-Goran Eriksson.
And despite speculation in France suggesting that a delegation from Paris St Germain were due to fly to California on Wednesday for talks with the 36 year-old, sources close to the player have insisted that there is no substance to the reports linking Beckham with a move to the Qatari-owned French club.
Beckham has told his advisers that the opportunity to embrace a new challenge will be the motivating factor and the prospect of ending his playing days in Brazil has emerged as a possibility as the country begins preparations for hosting the 2014 World Cup.
Beckham, whose only previous appearance in Brazil saw him sent off in Rio’s Maracana Stadium while playing for United against Mexican club Necaxa in the ill-fated World Club Championship in 2000, is open to the possibility of becoming the first high-profile Englishman to play in Brazil.
But with clubs in England, Europe and the United Arab Emirates having already expressed an interest in signing Beckham should he leave the MLS, the player has made it clear to his representatives that he will assess his options once he has fulfilled his commitments to Galaxy.
Beckham, who is expected to make himself available for the Great Britain football team at the London Olympics next summer, has an option within his MLS contract to invest in a franchise club in the developing league.
The possibility of Beckham becoming involved in expansion teams in Miami and San Diego has already been mooted in the United States, but there are no plans within the Beckham camp to trigger the franchise option while his playing career remains active.
