Uruguay's Diego Forlán, Spain's Iker Casillas, and Germany's Thomas Müller collected awards in Germany today in recognition of their outstanding performances in this summer's World Cup in South Africa.
Forlán and Casillas collected the Golden Ball and Golden Glove awards for being the best player and best goalkeeper of the tournament respectively.
As top goalscorer of the World Cup, Müller was awarded the Golden Boot at a ceremony held at the Adidas headquarters in Herzogenaurach (Germany).
Iker Casillas, captain of the Spanish side, told the press that the award was "the perfect way to round off a year of successes beyond my wildest dreams" and hoped that "the success continues in 2011".
The Golden Ball, awarded to Diego Forlán, has previously been won by some legendary names in football: Pele (1970), Johan Cruyff (1974), Diego Maradona (1986) and Zinedine Zidane (2006).
