The finest and the most flamboyant South American stars are ready to dazzle the world as the 2011 Copa America has started. Who is the perfect candidate for the Golden Boot? Lets take a guess…
1. Radamel Falcao (Colombia)
Age: 25
Current Club: Porto
This year, the Porto frontman is in incredible form. With the Portuguese club, he has notched up 63 goals, making him the highest-ever Colombian goalscorer on the old continent. Blessed with speed and balance, and is especially strong in the air, he knows exactly where the goal is. It looks like he may be joining Chelsea’s new manager Andre Villas-Boas at the club.
2. Neymar
Age: 19
Current Club: Santos
Some call him the next Pele. He will be different from other superstars like Messi, Suarez, Falcao and Pato, who all play in Europe, Neymar doesn't need adjust his form for this competition. He possesses all the qualities that makes Brazilian players great: tricks up his sleeve dribbling and a dynamite finishing touch. With this Brazil side, he will have many opportunities to find the net, and he really wants the world to see that he is a star.
3. Messi
Age: 24
Current Club: FC Barcelona
Already considered as a legendary footballer at only 22 and the finest player currently in world football. With his wonderful goalscoring ability and brilliant style of attacking play, the home side will saw their team lifting the trophy.
4. Edinson Cavani
Age: 24
Current Club: Napoli
The luscious-locked striker had a fantastic season for Napoli scoring 33 goals in all competitions. He was already shown what he can do with his performances at the last World Cup. He will no doubt be scoring at will in this tournament.
5. Luis Suarez
Age: 24
Current Club: Liverpool
Already shown Liverpool fans what he is capable of and bang in form for the Copa America. Good speed, strong in the air and his knack of scoring from set pieces makes him one of the most complete strikers a coach could want to have.
The likes of Forlan, Tevez and Aguero didn’t make it to my top 5 list. But yes, they still have the potential to be the top scorer. Take note that Javier Hernandez will not be representing Mexico at the tournament in Argentina, therefore he is not on this list.
